Hey Mark,

It's my understanding that Ford used the grease fitting to pump the steering box full of OIL NOT grease.The oil was so thick that it was difficult to pour it into the box.Ford later eliminated the grease fitting because too many people assumed that you should pump grease into the box.It's all in the service bulletins book.

I use a 2 ounce plastic syringe that you can probably find at a scientific supply store.It's graduated.It takes a while to draw the 600 weight oil up into it but pumping the lubricant into the box is a breeze!My Gemmer box took about 2-1/2 shots. Give it a try.Jack up the front wheels and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop while filling the box.This will better disperse the lubricant.
