This subject seems to come up here pretty often and usually with the same answers.Most of us have done it a little differently from each other and this is because the rules and regulations for titles vary so much from state to state.I think that all of us would agree that the first step would be to talk to your local tax office (or whoever it is that handles car registrations in your area) and explain your situation and find out what your options are.Hopefully they will be helpful...

One way to get one in Texas that I've never seen mentioned here is to send a letter to all 50 states!Yes, I've done this and it works.I sent a (form) letter to all 50 DMVs asking if the had VIN ********* registered in their state.Within a month I had received back 41 letters (this was all I received) stating that they knew nothing of a '65 Ford with that particular VIN.I presented these to the local DMV along with a couple other things and I had me a fresh Texas title!This had been about ten years ago, and I'm sure there's an easier way, but it did work and cost very little. Of course, YMMV...
