: I have a Model "B" Engine with a "C" head. The Serial number is 5400684325.Can anyone tell me what that number says about the engine. The number looks awfully long though. The numbers on "A"s and "T"s that I am used to seeing are only a maximum of 7 or 8 digits. What I am interested in knowing is whether the crankshaft is counter balanced -' without removing the pan'!!Thabnk You......

Bob,
The engine numbers on the Model B were stamped on the flywheel housing over the starter, not on the side of the block like the Model A.The numbers were like the Model A and V-8 in that they started and ended with a star. The Model B engine numbers started with 5,000,000.The prefix on some of the early passenger cars was "AB" and the trucks was "ABB".As I recall this is on the first 60,000 or so.After that the prefix went to the "B" and "BB".
Sounds like someone has stamped a number for their own use on the block on your engine.
John
