: : When testing for a leaking or ruptured head gasket, does the coolant suddenly bubble up quite suddenly after being under load for 10-15 seconds?
:

: YES!!!That's what I was attempting to explain on the earlier posting. If all is normal you would see only subtle signs of circulation. If the upper baffle in the radiator is missing, you'll see water spewing but no air.Heavy air bubblesor foaming under a load would indicate a head gasket problem.

Napa auto parts sell a really neat head gasket tester...for about $20...it tests the gasses in the radiator for hydrocarbons...and if they are found it changes a liquid in the tester from blue to yellow...its a really neat tester...and will give you a definate answer if your overheating problem is a blown gasket or somthing else...well worth the $20...use it over and over...if ya can not locate one I will call Napa where I got mine and get the number...Joel
