: Without getting into the actual discussion on Halogen vs incandesent, I noticed a link to a page with information about a solid state regulator for the original Model A generator.I have been running a solid state regulator on my Model A for about 10 years and 10,000 miles. While it is not the same one as on the web page it works just great. On my setup, the third brush is removed so it no longer is a factor.I have been very pleased with the performance and my Station Wagon retains it original appearance.

Also not wishing to divurge I would just like to say that with our voltage regulator approach the entire generator is stock with 3rd brush still in place. That way the 3rd brush still sets the maximum charge rate while the regulator then controls the generator from that maximum to the minimum as required and also the whole thing can be installed or removed in minutes. We have this thing about permanent changes to anything on our antique cars. You are right the generator can be used just fine with a regulator on it.We have been making them for a long time.
