: Seems to be a lot of new A tinkerers showing up these days and questions about these new and improved ignition thingies.

: First of all, Congratulations on your acquisition, it is a fine rewarding hobby loaded many fine and talented folks.

: From reading the recent posts I sort of get the idea of maintenance free if you use this or that, maybe more reliable but your Lady still requires her lubrication schedule.

: The point being the upper bearing of the distributor receives no oil and there isn't a way to do so unless one disassembles it. If you don't already have you should at least get the "Restorer's Shop Manual" by Jim Shields Available through the major supply houses, in there he does a neat little trick of cross drilling the dist. shaft then drilling down from the top to the cross drill and drilling a hole in the cam screw. Now one has a way to squirt oil at the top bearing.

: I haven't looked at the electronic ignitions for the A but I think they have to trigger off of something stuck in the distributor via the shaft. It would help to minimize the wear and the eventual wobble woes.

: Actually while you're doing the ignition it would be good to rebuild your distributor, it's not too hard.

: The reason I bring all this up is when I got my A, I couldn't get it to run good, just OK, the problem was a wobbly shaft due wear of the upper bearing.

: Hope this helps ya,
: GW
