: Being a newcomer to this racket, I would like to get the pros and cons concerning 6V alternators and electronic ignition.

: Thanks in advance.

George-
At the first MARC chapter meeting I attended, I had some generator/electrical problems and one of the members, Dan Crane, suggested that as long as my car was a driver, I should consider a single wire positive ground alternator and modern points set-up.It took very little time to install, and now my "A" runs and starts much better, lights are brighter and the turn signals I also installed work more efficiently. It would take about the same amount of time to reverse the installation for authenticity, so I am happy.I also added one of Bratton's fuse kits, a good idea for drivers, and I understand will not cost points for show.

My point is twofold:First, if you are a newcommer, join a local chapter of MARC or MAFCA, you can't go wrong.Second, do not do anything to your car that can not be "undone" so that a future restoration by you or the next owner is not jeapordized.

Enjoy, you are in for some great Model "A" adventures, especially on this board.

Tom, out of Lansing
