Hi Bill,

One thing a lot of people overlook is the style of shifting itself. When I got my A I had the same problems. Now I double clutch both up and down.I don't move the shifter into gear as I would on a new car,I move the shifter to the position and as I'm double clutching I'll gently push the shifter into gear.Don't Jam them.I'll actually feel the meshing through the gear shift lever vibration. If they begin to mesh you'll feel them go, then fully engage the gear.Use the worn beveled edges on your gears to your advantage.

It's like a golfer that says "Be the Ball"You've got the "Be the shifter!"Practice, Practice, Practice.Double clutching alone does not a good shifter make!

Good Luck,

Kevin Daly
