I went to a workshop that suggested using motorcycle front shock oil. Evidently it is available from most motorcycle dealers.
If the shocks are in good working order and on the car, it isn't easy, you have to fill with a syringe.
Tough to say on the adjustment. We adjusted them on the work bench and it was mostly a matter of "feel". "Up" should be about 40% and "down" 60% resistance.
