: My 1930 Model A when idling runs great and also when on travelling on level ground. But when trying to pull hills the engine suffers a loss of power and also sputters and backfires. Any idea or suggestions.

From the best to the worst.
1) Check the condenser.
2) check the inside of the distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracks (shorts under load)
3) Burnt intake valve, check compression. It's best to do a leak down check to check for burnt valves. (put 60 psi air into the cylinder at bottom dead center wiht both valves colsed and listen where it leaks out.)
Good luck and let me know what you find.
Brian
