The challenge here is to figure out whether the the car is overheating because it loses water, or because it is making too much heat or doesn't radiate heat effectively enough.

One real quick test would be to rig a hose from the overflow tube to a plastic bottle (like a milk bottle) that's tied outside the hood where you can see it while driving. Then run the car and see what happens. If the bottle starts to fill when the engine is under load then a blown or leaky head gasket is a good possibility (pretty common).

If the bottle starts to fill when your speed increases, a blocked radiator core is likely (also pretty common).

If the bottle doesn't fill until there's steam, then timing problems, bad pump, slipping fan belt, dragging brakes, loose radiator fins, etc. are likely
