Ray,
There are many things that can cause this.
First the radiator you could have blocked tubes. Make sure that there is not too much paint on it.
The water pump should be checked for proper operation.
The engine timeing can cause the car to run hot.
Also make sure that the fuel mixture in the caburator is not to lean.
