: What is headbolt torque and tightening pattern?

: If head needs resurfacing, is there a maximum amount of metal that can be removed?

: Thanks

John,
The head bolt torque is 50-55 ft-lbs. They should be tightened in increments starting at 30 ft-lbs, 45 ft-lbs then 50lbs. They should be re-tightened to 50 after warming up the engine to operating temperature. The pattern starts in the middle bolt and works to the ends. It would be best to get a copy of the Model A Service Bulletins, Jim Schild's Model A Shop Manual or similar to get the sequence exactly. If you can't get one of these and need it right away. Let me know and I could fax it to you. (I don't have a way to scan into the computer.) Visit Marith McCoul's set, address below on other torques, engine information etc.
I haven't seen an exact measurement thru the head for the head. But usually all the resurfacing needed is to just clean it up. If it has been resurfaced before, a good shop will normally stamp how much was taken off on the regrind. If it is not marked, it may not have been resurfaced and you will have more to work with.
Perhaps Marith can give us some guidance on how much is too much.
John
