Paul,
Dave brings up a very good point that reminds of something else to check. I used copper clad intake/exhaust gaskets and they required retorquing a few times till they set in. Like the head gasket torquing while hot in sequencial torque steps and follow a pattern.

: Just curious about whether you had the intake or exhaust manifold off of the engine. If you did and they are not sealed against the block, you may have a vacuum leak. The manifolds might reseal after the engine heats up and when it cools the seal is lost and would make it difficult to start.
