: My engine was rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago. It was a total rebuild with new pistons and babbit being poured. Some insist that bearing clearances must be checked and adjusted every 5,00 miles. Others tell me, " If the engine is running fine and not knocking, don't worry. Any thoughts on this?

you sould only have to adjust your bearings when they begin to make noise (turn the radio down) main bearings may not make as much nois as the rods but when the rear main gets bad it will leak more oil out the rear. If you run alot of timming it will pound the bearings more . We don't put babbit in the main any more at our shop we insert the mains and most of the time the rod .
