My first question is what process are you planning to use to remove old paint and rust? I've done several "A"s and my choice is sandblasting by someone that knows the process and doesn't warp the metal. I do my own blasting. Then I blow it off good, wipe it down with lacquer thinner if it is to be painted with lacquer and then I prime it before nightfall. I have a "AA" that I restored 18 years ago and it still looks as good as the day I completed it.

I've used metal prep but I neverfelt comfortable with washing the metal with water to neutralize it.

This is a good question that you've asked and I am interested in seeing how many different approachs you will get back.

A last suggestion. Paint all sheet metal of same color at the same time, not part tomorrow or next week. I see to many beautiful restorations that are 2 or 3 shades when seen in the sun.

Good luck!!!!
