: : Due to not having a rebuildable generator I purchased a 6 volt
: : one wire hookup aternator for my 29 closed cab pickup and now
: : I have a slight current drain through the alt. This goes away
: : when I remove the one wire hookup.I am not on the road yet so cannot tell if the charging rate is correct.Do I have a defective alt.Or am I just charging up somthing inside.I don't think this would be normal operation. And for the purist this is the only alteration except for a little more comfortable seat cushion. Thanks for any and all help.

: I want to thank everyone for the information and advice. And yes, Bob, after completly rewireing the truck I was looking for any kind of elect. short or battery drain. Thanks again.

The one wire charging system can use a resistor to ensure that the alternator will excite at low rpm's.The resistor will cause a small drain. There is nothing wrong with the alternator.
