: Last month I heard a loud creehing sound followed by a couple of tapping sound. OK the water pump lost a couple of washers allowing the fan to go forward, lucky not far enough to get the radiator. BUT on looking over the pump I noticed the empeller had the tips knocked off about 1/16 of a inch. Since the shaft let the play go toward the front , no play to the rear what knocked of the tips of the empeller? I looked into the motor and still could not understand what knocked the tips off even if the shaft could go that away. I know some of you guys have the answer, so who's first.
: Thanks.

Wade,
That screeching sound was from spinning your rear tires when dumping the clutch with the engine tached to 6000 rpm!!!
I couldn't resist that one.

It's been awhile since I looked at a water pump, the washers you refer to, are they inbetween the impeller and pump body?
If so, how did you loose the washers, wear away or break? Could they have caused the breakage? Now ya go me going because I don't remember anything about washers, geez!
