: The radiator shell on my 1930 Murray Sedan has a few dings and : small tears, but otherwise is in good shape.Does anyone : have experience making their own repairs of this sort?I am : primarily interested in knowing if the shell can be welded. : If so, what alloy of Mig wire and type of gas are most appropriate? : Finally, does anyone know of a company or individual that : restores the shells? Is there a ballpark figure for : the cost of this type of work? Thanks for any help.Doug Handran Hi Doug. The best method for welding the stainless shells is the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) method. It uses a non-consumable tungsten rod and the 300 series non-magnetic stainless rods for the filler material.Good TIG welders with experience repairing the Model A shells will know what specific 300 series number rod to use to match the "color" of Henry's material.Believe it was called "Allegheny Rustless Steel", and had a distinct coloration all it's own. After the shell is TIG welded by an expert, there is virtually no discoloration at all, and very little hand work is required. Larry Jenkins |
