: Has anyone ever even heard of an Austin Ford.A local guy is trying to sell me what he says is a 1930 Austin Ford.It is in his garage and is covered with junk so I cannot get real close to it, but it looks like a 3/4 scale duplicate of a Model A Victoria.I asked him if it was English and he said no - it is American.Any information regarding this car would be helpful. Bill,I'd bet what he has is a 1930 American Austin, built in Butler,Pa.USA.production for that year was 8,858,1931 sold 1,279 and more than 1500 unfinished cars in the factory with no potential buyers.Styled by Alexis de Saknoffsky and built by Hayes, they had dual color schemes, disk brakes, and on the roadstercurved color panels aped J Duesenberg.Car looked longer than the actual 122inches roadster priced from$445 to $550 for a de luxe coupe.Gas 40 mpg.45ci four banger,75"wheelbase./Austin was about 28" shorter and 12" narrower than the A roadster. And Yes this was a sister car to the British Austin.Ford had nothing to do with this vehicle, unless someone latter on replaced/modified the engine to a Ford A .Nice looking buggy.I'm curious whats he asking for It. It looks a little like a cross between a MGTD and an A? |
