: What is the best brand of distributor points to buy? I have had trouble with rubbing block wear and the point gap closing up. I understand that this is to be expected with new points for the first few hundred miles. Mine continue to close up every 5 00 - 600 miles. The distributor was rebuilt and the upper plate was replaced so it is nice and tight. Has anyone had any experience with the modern upper plate with the different condensor and points? Do they work? What are their advantages and disadvantage as compared to the original style?
YES...I have had trouble...first if you don't use point lube the wearing block will flat go away after several thousand miles...the best points I have used are "Blue Streak" brand and "Standard" brand...I got them at a Napa store...I have had good luck with condensers...if your points show a pit on the moving arm or the stationary arm that means that the condenser is to strong or to weak...the purpose of the condenser is to prevent the points from pitting...most of the time the problem comes from the upper distributor bushing allowing the point gap to change..also allows oil vapors up into the distributor causing a build-up on the points...they should be a light grey...a blue-grey color means that they are getting to much voltage.
