G'Day Ron,
What I'd do is first remove all spark plugs & try & turn the engine by hand, if this is possible but the engine seems a bit tight, spray WD40 into the cylinders through the spark plug holes. If the engine's really tight, you may need to remove the starter in order to turn the engine with a screwdriver on the starter ring gear after spraying the WD40 into the cylinders. Once the engine turns freely, check all valves are closing once they've been open, if not a bit of WD40 & a gentle nudge with a screwdriver should free it. Drain the engine oil & preferably remove the oil pan & clean out the dipper tray as bits & pieces of unwanted foreign bodies tend to accumulate here. When re-filling with oil, remove distributor & pour 1 or 2 pints down the distributor hole, this oil will flow back down into the dipper tray & give the big end bearings a fighting chance on start up. Remove the carb bowl by loosening the main bolt on the bottom of the carb, (9/16" spanner) & open fuel cock to allow fuel to run through line, clean out bowl & refit. Once the engine turns freely, connect up your battery & spin it over for a minute or two in order to get its life blood flowing. Replace the plugs, & if you've got spark from the ignition system & there's no interference from Murphy, the engine "should " start. Check the transmission levels, grease all points & make sure the brakes work, & off you go.
