: G'Day All,
:Here's a question for those of you involved either directly or indirectly in the compilation of the Judging Standards, or owners of original 1930 model Canadian cars. From what I understand of the Canadian supplement to the Standards,& I quote:-
: " From early 1928 through January 1929 the Canadian radiator shell emblem was an extremely dark blue vitreous enamel that appeared to be black in color. The edge & script were nickel plated.
: In January 1929, the vitreous enamel background of the radiator emblem was eliminated. This style continued in production until late 1930. A chrome finish was added in 1930."
: The Standards then go on to explain about the 1931 stamped stainless emblem & show a plain looking photograph of aa emblem. The way I read the above is that the 1930 emblem was just plain nickel or chrome plated with no painted background, yet I found traces of a very dark paint on two emblems which I have, although I couldn't ascertain exactly whether they were originally nickel or chrome plated (I would guess nickel by the condition of the plating). Can anyone enlighten me as to what is correct, as I see most owners emblems before 1931 have a blue background here.

DJ. :I have an original Canadian Tudor with a manufacture date of July 1930.My uncle bought this car in 1930 and when I got it 5 years ago, it was original and unrestored.I can find no evidence of any paint or enamel on the emblem. It had kind of a raised, not totally smooth surface. I don't think it was chrome either, likely nickel.I have heard from a person who is very knowledgeable about Canadian made A's that there were several suppliers of the rad emblem.Perhaps this might account for some of the variations that you describe. The blue background sounds like the USA type. Also remember that as good as the STANDARDS are, there are some things that they do not have complete details or information about. For example, on my original andalusite blue Model A and several other originals that I have seen, the window garnish mouldings are black. The STANDARDS make no mention of this and infact say that it should be grey or maroon. And of course, the STANDARDS are in a constant state of revision as new information comes up that can be verified as authentic.
