: I recently learned about a 1930s high performance carburater known as a "Simmons". Has anyone else heard about these carbs?

Rick,
I have two Simmons Carb's that I have had for years.I run one on a 30 coupe. It performs beautifuly.Very low, smooth idle and correct run out on all speed ranges.Another is a '31 with a side bowl.I am not presently running it.When it was in service it performed well.If speed is what you mean by "high" performance, I don't think they fall into that catagory.(I'm an under fifty(mph) man myself) There was an article in "the Restorer" recently about them but not a lot of detail was given. They, at a glace, look like a Zenith and some parts will interchange. That does not include the float valve, throttle shaft and plate.Hope this helps.
Have fun!
Paul
