: Recently cleaned the body number brass plate and noticed a little color around the numbers.At the moment most of the plate is shinny brass,does anyone know what collor the plate may have been and was there a second color used.It looks like a faded marron.Can someone give me a little edge on restoring the color of the plate. The color of the body number plate was either all brass or black around the edges. The '30 Murray Town Sedan should have the prefix M604. Some of these had a standard lettering stencil and some had a more fancy style of lettering. Either can be correct. I have not seen many body number plates with the black border and I guess there was probably more than one color used for this border. Maybe someone else out there can tell us for sure. I have a technical letter by Bill Lancaster on the '29 Town Sedan body numbers and tags. E-mail me with your address and I will send you a copy of it. It also shows a picture of a '29 Murray tag with the black border.
