I've set up mine the same way, but haven't driven it yet.I did two boxes at the same time, and the other one is in a '30n tudor at about 3K miles and climbing with no de-generation.We did install the shaft seal though.

I bought Torrington needle sets from the local bearing vendor, though, rather than from a "A" parts dealer.

Technically, though, since the sector shaft isn't hardened, I was worried about the needles wearing into the shaft since they're hardened themselves, and supposed to run on a shaft surface of about Rc 45 or better.It sounds as though the needles weren't hardened in your set, because they shouldn't have worn so rapidly.

I'll be watching ours - wouldn't be the first time an improvement went squirrely (I can hear Flanagan laughing now - curses, foiled again).
