: Please will someone tell me the following for a 1929

: valve clearance = 0.010 - 0.012" / 0.25 - 0.30mm
: contact breaker gap = 0.018 - 0.022" / 0.45 - 0.55mm
: plug gap = 0.035" / 0.85mm
: ignition timing

Remove the timing pin from the front of the timing cover and insert it in the hole. Then turn the motor with the crank until the pin drops into a shallow depression in the timing gear (it won't go in much, and the depression is easily missed). With the engine in position, retard the spark lever all the way, and remove the distributer cap and rotor.Loosen the Screw in the distributer shaft, replace the rotor and turn the cam counter-clockwise until the rotor electrode just passes the #1 cylinder lead in the cap (the rotor will be pointing at the passenger's side headlight). Then remove the rotor, and turn the cam Clockwise until the points JUST BARELY close. Tighten the screw snugly. the turn the engine over two revolutions with the crank and check that the points JUST open when the timing depression goes by. If they're early or late, Re-adjust slightly and check again.I generally make a mark on the crank pully and attach a piece of coat-hanger wire as a pointer so that I don't have to fool with the timing pin while checking.

You can check the points opening by turning on the ignition, and putting the high tension wire from the coil close to the body metal. When the spark jumps as you turn the engine, the points will have just opened.

You should also check that the spark lever on the distributer moves ALL the way across the slot and contacts the edges of the slot in the distriduter body when the lever at the steering wheel is moved through its travel. If it doesn't, fix it before adjusting the timing.
