G'Day Fred,
Mike's just about said it all. Just a few pointers like assemble with grease to give the joint a fighting start in life. Fit the joints to the balls first & tighten the plugs tight then back off 1/2 a turn, the tie rod can then be screwed into rod ends. One drag link end is the same as the tie rod ends & the other is assembled with the flat bucket first, then the ball, then the bucket with the spring locating spigot & lastly the cap. In case you don't have the Judging standards,(or for others that don't) this end is fitted on the pitman arm from October '28 & the other way around before that date. I also had a bit of a tussle with the steel covers & my balls were slightly worn (the ones on the steering arms) but with a little perserverance I got them on without bending anything.
I saw an article on wheel alignment where it was stated that a measurement is taken between the same points on the tyre sidewall circumference in front of & behind the axle at a point 6" above the ground. This is incorrect & the toe-in of 1/8" should always be measured atdiametrically opposite points which would be in line with the stub axle parallel to the ground. The car should also be rolled forward 1/2 a wheel revolution & checked again, just in case you have a bent wheel, in which case the measurement would change.

: I should have taken better notes when I disassembled the front end! Need help on the tie rod assembly. It would seem to me that the correct allignment here will make minor adjustments for front wheel allignment easier. Are there simple measurements for assembling . I know that originally the tie rod ends were not completely screwed on all the way, when I took it apart.Does anyone know what the total length of the tie rod assembly is with ends attached? When assembling the inside of the ends,it looks like my notes show the disk against the grease fitting area, then the spring, then the disk with spring holder, the end plug would be last with a cotter pin. It looks like I will need to enlarge the metal seal cap opening to fit over the steering balls. Is this unusual for a repo.part? Once the tie rod is put on,it looks like the rod caps will be very close to the brake backer plate,to fit a tie rod plug tool on.Realy need advise on this little gem. Again thanks for the advice and Happy Holidays to One and All! Novice of the North
