Gordon,

The Judging Standards descrides which cars had fittings (small shaft & multiple disk clutch and large shaft May 1930 on)but doesn't explain that the pedals are different. The large shaft pedals with fittings had a boss forged in the bottom for the fittings. The brake pedal fitting faced rearward approximately 10 degrees. The clutch pedal fitting faced forward approximately 15 degrees. The only reason for this is the design of the pedal forging.

A good coating of grease at assembly should last several years unless it's your commute car. If you are really more comfortable with fittings there, I would just put them straight down for access. Make sure the fittings are not deep enough to touch the shaft.

Marco
