There has been many articles and discussions over the years about non-detergent versus detergent motor oils, and the abiguous (at best) results differ depending on who's talking or who's writing the article. Not being a Lubrication Engineer, I will give you my opinions. If I had an engine with a lot of miles on it that uses non-detergent oils, I would continue to use it, but definitely add an oil filter. I had my engine rebuilt, and I use Quaker State 10 W 30 detergent oil with an API SH rating with an oil filter.(Think there might even be an SI rating by now). I don't recall ever hearing or reading proof that detergent oils are bad for the babbit bearing material in the Model A engine. Think you might have opened up the can! Larry Jenkins |
