Bill, Henry advertised a car capable of 60 MPH. Unlike it's predecessor. Realistically speaking neither the roads, the cars suspension or the engine were up to sustained speeds of 60. Now here we are 70 years later with the roads that will handle the speed but the machine is changed little save for the ravages of time.

My opinion is that the Model A is my diversion, I use it extensively but never when rushed. When rushed for time the Lincoln will go like crazy. Totally different concept. When was the last time I took the pan off the Lincoln simply to see if all was well. Never. Had the pan off of Mr. Model A about a month ago, just to visit the bottom end. A waste of time for sure but I seem to have it to waste.

It's all a question of one's priorities. I approach the hobby from a historical and mechanical direction. Many people derive their pleasure from striving to improve on the design through modification. Who is right? Obviously to each his own. Each persons car is his own to do with as he chooses. Gladly there are enough of us historical nuts to preserve the little car for the future. The modifieds have their place as well. "Different strokes for different folks" as it were.

Then there is the consideration of safety. I have some experience driving the fast iron, mostly midgets, and have no desire to find myself pitching my Model A into a corner to avoid some idiot who isn't paying attention. Nor do I relish a flat tire at 60 per. Especially with the Grand Dotter and the Big Blond on board... so...

: If 40/45 is the magic speed why do a lot of period advertisments boast of 55 to 60mph? A friend of mine has a 30 coupe with 40,000 plus miles of 50 to 55 on it and it runs great,Its a babbit motor!
