: :Well I guess the header of this message just about said it all.Anyway, here lately on my 31 coupe the bendix keeps getting stuck on the flywheel and not releasing.I have to get out and "rock the boat" to get it to spring back into place.Yesterday I had to go as far as to remove the starter bolts and then rock the car again to get it to fly loose. Is this normal, what can I do to stop it, does it need shims, do I need a new spring, or what?Other than that the starter works great!
: :I'd like to thank everyone in advanced for the help.

: The later starters don't require any shims like the 1928 abel drive. The usual cause of jamming that I've encountered is due to a bent starter shaft. Some have been bent and straightened and end up with a double bend. If you are fairly handy, patient, and precise, you can correct it. Otherwise I would contact a starter/generator rebuilder and inquire, or call in a favor from a Model A buddy for another starter!

: Also double check the position of the ring gear on the flywheel when the starter is out (long shot).

ALL OF THE ADVISE ABOVE IS EXCELLANT- DON'T FORGET TO RETARD THE SPARK WHEN YOU GET IT FIXED .THAT IS USUALLY THE CAUSE.HAPPY MOTORING-DON
