: I am in the process of restoring a 1930 closed cab pick up. I have read that the underside of the wood used for the floor board and the floor of the pick up box should be treated with a black preservative, but have not found any information on what this is. Is there a product out there which will work for this or should I just use a black paint? Any information on this would be appreciated.

OK, you guys..If you promise not to laugh too hard, I'll give you the "secret" I obtained quite by accident.

Because I'm a little frugal, I sweet talked the guys at Ziebart to sell me a gallon of their rust-proofing stuff.Kind of a "runny-thick" black liquid that I used and did it ever work nice.Has the original "dull black" look.

Because I modified my "A", I painted the underside of my fenders, the underside and the inside of my coupe body, including the wood, (prior to upholstery) with it.Good stuff..

Takes a while to dry, but no rust after all these years, and the floor boards look original.

Another way..
