: I am in the process of restoring a 1930 closed cab pick up. I have read that the underside of the wood used for the floor board and the floor of the pick up box should be treated with a black preservative, but have not found any information on what this is. Is there a product out there which will work for this or should I just use a black paint? Any information on this would be appreciated.
Roy, I'm getting to a simular position on replacing 30 floorboards. Both Jim and Mark are giving excellent ideas,But I would like to get closer to Jim's thorough research. I am using special treated plywood,A ground contact ply that is used on some home foundations. I would use marine ply but it is extreamley expensive up here. I will treat the bottom with a combination of foundation coating and brushed on heated wax paraphin. this is only going on the bottom side and the top side will be a deluted foundation coatting for appearance only. You may want to experiment with some scrap wood to get the appearance you desire.Good Luck
