the process specification from the ford motor company dated 1-20-30 states:
"water repellent, black concentrated
the material desired is a mixture of asphaltum and wax in solution, suitable to apply on wood underbody parts which are not to be painted."it then states requirements in percents of wax, gums, oil, asphaltum, petroleum spirts and other solvents. "it shall leave a waxy coat when applied to dry wood which will be staple(sic) in hot tropical weather

i've heard that a black wood stain or thinned black paint both 'flatened' come pretty close in appearance.

: I am in the process of restoring a 1930 closed cab pick up. I have read that the underside of the wood used for the floor board and the floor of the pick up box should be treated with a black preservative, but have not found any information on what this is. Is there a product out there which will work for this or should I just use a black paint? Any information on this would be appreciated.
