: Are the 1929 Murray and 1930 Murray 4 drs. front seat the same?
You didn't mention which model it is. There are two basic design seat assemblies and two basic design seat adjusting mechanisms. The first design seat has a straight (angled) back from top to bottom including the carpeted toe board and a metal strap around the front of the carriage forming a trayfor the seat cushion. This seat was used on most Town sedans, both Murray & Briggs bodies. The second design had a recessed toe board that was carpeted and no strap around the front. This design was used on most standard fordors, although I haven't seen many Standard Murray fordors. The earlier seat adjuster used a large (3/4"x19-1/16") adjusting screw that went from the front of the seat to a bracket on the floor at the rear of the seat. The second adjuster used a small (3/8"?x6-37/64")adjusting screw that went from the front of the seat to a bracket on the floor near the front of the seat. The early type adjuster was phased out on Murray bodies around early 1930 and on briggs bodies soon thereafter. I believe the assemblies are interchangeble between Murray and Briggs bodies (although not 100% certain). If you are looking for a seat assembly my primary concern would be matching the seat to the location of the bracket on the floor of your car. Next follow the guidelines above. Good luck, Marco |
