The joint is below the fuel level in the bowl, so any problems with the fitting will result in a leak. The needle housing is designed with a tapered pipe thread. If the threads are in good condition on both parts it should seal well without any sealer.Check the threads on both parts and be sure the housing is not bottoming on the hex before the fitting is tight.
