:I would like to check the compression on my Model A.Is there a particular kind of compression gauge that will best fit the large spark plug hole? What should compression readings be?Are they checked with the engine warm?Any other suggestions ?

Any modern compression gauge which screws into the spark plug hole will work fine if used with an adapter which adapts modern plugs for use in the Model A head. These adapters are available from most Model A suppliers.I have seen compressions in the range of 50-70 lbs in good running original engines, and up to 90+ lbs. with a high-compression head, test done on a warmed-up engine with all plugs removed and turned over with the starter. The actual value of the readings is not as inportant as whether or not the readings are similiar from cylinder to cylinder (within a few lbs. of each other).
Good luck
