: Hi,
: I just finished installing the engine in my first Model A.I have a 1930 Tudor sedan.I've got the wiring installed now (except for the light and horn loom) but as I tried to connect the battery I keep blowing the fuse on my starter.I've traced the poblem to the dash unit.It appears that the dash unit sparks and then blows the fuse whenever I try to screw it into the fuel tank/dash.If I leave it unattached the fuse doesn't blow but a test light shows that the dash itself and the speedometer cable are hot. Anyone have any ideas.I spent four hours checking the wiresand still can"t figure it out.I would appreciate your help. Thanks alot.

G'Day Ted,
Always being one to look for the easiest way out, I would say that you may possibly have the coil & switch feed wires reversed & the internal wire,(if you are using the pop-out type switch) may also be faulty. On the A the coil is permanently fed with a live & only when the ignition is switched on is the cicuit completed by connecting the distributor side of the coil to the points via the switch. Try disconnecting the wire feeding the switch & see if you still have the same problem, if not it sounds as though as previously suggested the ampmeter could be the culprit. To check this just disconnect the wires from the meter one at a time & check for your problem again.
