Malcolm,
It seems that the nickle plated buckets were very prone to pitting and is why you don't see very many good ones. I found a pair of commercial buckets that had been painted and had them plated for my 1928 Coupe. You may want to go that route as I think I have about $250. U.S. in my complete headlights.
