A dissenting opinion. All things being equal the two styles of cutout have virtually no advantages or dis-advantages over on another... until it breaks. With the old style as Henry made them you have a chance at a roadside repair. With the diode style the only alternative is... maybe stop at the nearest Radio Rhack or Motorola.

Once again, in my opinion modern is not better. Thirty miles south of Crescent City CA in the heart of the beautiful Redwoods my cutout died until dead as the Grand Dotter puts it. Thinking I could maybe do a little roadside repair I took the cap off and what did I find, a diode. Nuts!

After some head scratching I purchased a switch and some 10ga wire at the nearest auto supply and ran a jumper circuit into the cockpit. Ran that way all the way to San Diego with no problemo. You just have to remember to turn off the switch whenever you stop shut down the engine.

Any car I have will have a mechanical cutout, I have even purchased a couple of originals just in case.

: Hello,

: I'm investigating cutouts. There is a cutout with a diode installed. Is this a better unit for the go car?Does it last longer or something? What are the benefits of this versus the original cutout? Any experiences?
