Water loss at idle

I'm rather new at the "A" business since I just bought my car on July 31 of this year.I've enjoyed reading this message board and it's helped solve most of my problems just by reading all of the past comments posted. However I have a problem that I don't believe I've read about before. And before I take too many steps in the wrong directions, I'd better get advice.

I've had this problem since I've owned the car but paid particular attention to it this weekend as I was getting the car ready for a Minnesota winter.Just as the car is started and idling nicely the water rises.I thought that was normal since the water pump pushes a volume of water to the top of the radiator before it can go through the system. But it kept rising. It was going out the overflow tube so I put my thumb on the top of the tube to stop it and of course it continued to rise, but in doing so I noticed that the water wasn't hot just warm.No bubbles either. When I drive the car about 25 miles, I'll lose about a gallon of water making stops often on not long trips.

I suspect that it's a clogged radiator. But before I rip it out and get it boiled, I thought I'd ask if others have any suspicions that I could check also.Thanks.

Also, if anyone else is like me.. There are a lot of readers to all of these postings, you just don't hear from us because we're getting lots of good answers from everyone.
