That sort of depends upon how diligent the engine builder was in fitting the bearings. Kyle Holman, who built my engine, takes great pains and lots of prussian blue to be sure the bearings are free of high spots. If this is not done by the builder then it is done by the crankshaft wearing off the high spots and thus developing clearance prematurely. I have 6k on a Holman engine and have had no reason to suspect that I should go into the mains as yet.

I called him to ask if I should check the clearances. After asking if the engine was making noise or leaking oil at the rear main excessively and being told no on both counts he asked why I was bothering him. That's Kyle. Told me to close the hood and drive it. So I did....
