Larry; absolutely, run rich can affect the performance dramatically. After you get the problem sorted out and the A is running good again just setup a cruise speed of 35 on level ground, set the hand throttle, and then reach over and give the choker a couple turns open. Watch the speedo and the answer is clear. The jet sizes you are looking for are as follows:Main Jet.035
Cap jet .036
Idle Jet.021
Compensator Jet .037

These sizes are for the A Zenith, I don't know about the B carb, maybe one of the others is more knowledgable about them.

Make sure the float bowl level is correct. This is hard to determine without a sight gauge or you can take a glass jar and with the bottom of the carb removed secure the jar to the bottom of the carb and turn the gas on and see where the level stops. Model A Zenith should be 5/8".

God Speed under 50.

The Model A Fool.

: : Mike,

: : The math is (0.035/2) * (0.035/2) * 3.1416 = 0.000962
: : and (0.042/2) * (0.042/2) * 3.1416 = 0.001385

: : and

: : ((0.001385 - 0.000962) / 0.000962 ) * 100% = 44% increase.

: : That is alot more gas.

:
: You guys are awesome..

: Now talk to me in simple terms. Like which jets
: and how big should the orifices be. (Or is it orify, Mike?) I bought the B carb at a swap meet, and just cleaned it up prior to use including removing and cleaning the jets.

: Could the excessive gas affect the power? The last time I had the A out, the old gal backfired like a pregnant cow and scared the hell out of all the stray dogs..

: Thanks..
