: Hello, : Can someone tell me how to get the field coils out of the generator body? I can't budge those screws on the outside of the generator body! Looks like the past owner could't either! : Dean Travis G'Day Dean, This process can be a little trying, but with the right procedure you should win. Firstly nail a piece of wood (2 pieces about 1" square & 6" long) onto a piece of board (a foot square should do) & then push the generator casing up against it. Place the second piece against the other side of the casing, then remove the casing & nail it into position. You now have a very basic jig to rest the casing in so that it won't move around. Give the pole shoe screws a few "GOOD" sharp taps with a punch of about 1/2" diameter. You nowneed a large 1/2" drive screwdriver bit which will fully fit into the head of the screw & a "T" bar driver. Place the holder & casing in adrill press (assuming you or one of you friends own one) & fit a centre punch or something similar into the drill chuck to push on the back of the "T" bar. Now's a good time to borrow the "helper" mentioned in the repair manual to hold the generator casing & pull down on the drill press handle to hold the screwdriver bit in position in the screw slot while you attempt the anti- clockwise rotation of the offending fastener. There's an article in Volume 4 of "How To Restore Your Model A" with some good pictures on overhauling the generator & is definately worth the money. Regards DJ. OutOfAfrica A's
