Malcolm; Model A's flutter, they cough occasionally and sometimes they belch a little. The compression is so low, by design, that they are not really a very efficient engine. If you have just assembled and are testing it's to soon to start diagnosing flutters, coughs and belchs. If it runs smoothly most of the time then get on with the rest of the work and once you start rolling up the miles it will even out. If Mr. Model A should sit idle for what he thinks is an excessive amount of time he gives me fits for a while. Model A's also don't like to be driven in town all the time. You got to let 'er lope occasionally as the late Ben Johnson used to say. But lope 'er under 50 and she'll go the distance. All the things that could be wrong with the car will unfold over time. Get it on the road....

God Speed Under 50.

The Model A Fool.

: My running chassis (finally) is sweet to drive, and what a great sound! But, there is a slight occasional flutter at idle.Advisors have told me that this may be a worn throttle shaft in the carb.I've double checked EVERTYTHING else. What kind of tolerance is permitted? Is an oversize shaft the best cure?

: Also, Schild's book shows that the front brake levers should lean 15 degrees ahead of centre. Is more better?

: Your expertness is continually appreciated!
