In Austrailia they are rebuilding original brake drums withjust plain welding with good success.The fellow I talked to indicated that it was only because replacement parts were hard to come by and expensive.Like Mike says, I doubt that you'd find it economical unless you have the stuff to do it yourself.
Once a year the Dallas "A" club does mass purchases of Plasmeter drums, and gets them for arount $65 ea.Maybe a club local to you does the same??
