: I bought a repro light switch and the design (and quality) made it a poor choice (so often the case for repro items).I need an original for my 30 Tudor.E-mail meif you have one and the price.Must be in working condition.Thanx.

Tony,
I just had my first experience in trouble shooting a problem with the repo light switch and according to one reply, "they are the pits."But we had no replacement and since necessity is the mother of invention we had little choice. Here is what we found with this incidence.
The contacts in the bakelite disk are slightly recessed below the outer surface. The three projections (raised area)on the brass plate on the switch are not raised enough to make contact when the assembly is mounted on the car.The flat area between the projections rub on the disk and causes a loss of contact. Seems to work OK when operating the switch with a screwdriver.
Here is how we fixed it.The object is to remove the brass (disk?) from the switch assembly and make the projections reach down farther into the disk. This can be done by carefully pressing theretaining lugs back to the shape before they were crimped. This will allow disassembly of the switch.Remove the disk from the insulator and place a projection in the nut end of a very small socket (1/8").With a center punch in the inverted projection (dimple?)give the punch a little tap. This will make the dimple taller and allow it to reach down onto the recess where the contacts are. Repeat for the other two dimples. You can re-crimp the lugs by carefully squeezing them with diagonal wire cutters.
This worked for us.Maybe it will for you.
Have fun!
Paul
