Comments on powder coating

For those interested in powder coating a little learned insight. Henry had quite a few of his parts dipped in japanned laqure black before assembly.To come close to this process I decided I would have a few chassis parts powdercoated.The advantages of powder coating were oil,gas,and petrol proof; more chip resistant than enamel or lacqure;available in gloss or semi-gloss in a wide range of flavors.The parts are cleaned and fine sandblasted,used around here a lot on private aircraft refinishing.This fine sandblasting removes very little of the original metal.The metal is then powdered and taken to a large commercial oven where the powder is bakeded into/onto the metal.Any low temp fillers such as plastic filler or lead can not be used as they will melt away .So if you do find a part that has been powdercoated you can be pretty sure that it is not a filled product.I feel that this process is the ultimate in preserving the A that I have gone to the extent of having most of the chassis parts,wheels,brakes,frame,etc.powdered.I know our grandchildren will enjoy the extra spent in the preservation cost avaraged over the years,its worth it! Some parts may require being tapped-off from coating all,such as bearing or brake pad surfaces.Would like to here comments on this subject from one and all!!!!!!
