: :I suspect that I have an intake manifold leak. What tests can I do to verify an intake leak?Do the one piece steel/asbestos gaskets seal better than the cheaper 2 piece asbestos gaskets? How about the original copper kind?Any special instructions when installing the new gasket? Also, what reading should a vacuum gauge give when hooked up to the vacuum wiper port?

: Wayne,
: You've gotten some good advice so far, but I would like to step back and ask what the symptoms are that leads you to suspect an intake leak. Thanks

Doug:There are several reasons that I suspect a leak:1) My normally smooth idling engine suddenlystarted running rather rough.Plugs, points and timing are dead on.2)I tried another carb with no change.3)My vacuum reading at the wiper port is about 11".My wipers run very slowly and before they were quite fast.I also took the vacuum reading at the wiper port on the intake manifold with the same result. One puzzling thing is that I did flow a little light oil at the gasket points and I could detect no change in engine speed. What do you think?
